2010 Season is Over

The North Americans was a wekeend of bad weather, bad luck and a few bad decisions.  Our regatta was hit hard before it even began with this:

A broken boom before the first gun of a 4 day regatta.  We had been sailing in 30kts true and BAM!  We zipped in to shore as fast as possible and called friends frantically.....one was ready to help and actually delivered the boom to Chicago Yacht Club.  We were able to get out for the second race by the skin of our teeth.  Fortunately a 45 degree wind shift forced the RC to abandon a race about 5 min after it started.  As the second race started we tacked into a 3rd row start at the committee boat and ended up finishing much better than last.  So, that was a plus.  But in the midst of that race we exploded a stanchion, and tore our spinnaker.....it wasnt a cheap day.

Days two and three were mixed for the crew of Vytis.  Our best finish was 4th and our worst was last in the races we missed.  We ended up cancelling racing on Sunday so we could return the boom to her rightful owner so they could go sailing that day.  Overall it was a very disappointing end to the season.

Anyway, 2011 is right around the corner.  And the next Mac race is only 10 months away.....

Next up will most likely be Strictly Sail in January and then a crew party in February or March.

Vytis has sailed her last day of the season.  Keith, Andy and Gyt took her back to Crowley's last Thursday on an incredible afternoon.  Without a boom and our backup spinnaker we had a final day of fun.  A few photos of this awesome fall sail.

I believe the fall workday will be October 10, 2010.  10am.

why didn't you duct tape the boom?
