2012 Race to Waukegan

Having all successfully made the 7:30 AM boat call, Keith, Emily, Steve, Gytis and Antanas set off for the 2012 Race to Waukegan. The morning featured very light winds in the three to four knot range. In the afternoon it picked up and we were cruising at a good clip of around seven knots, only to have it all die within view of the finish line.

The last hour was spent looking at goose eggs. Finally, we pulled in, gassed up, and met Katie on the docks for a Vytis post race happy hour.

Mary and Tommy surprised us with a visit. Shenanigans ensued.
Steve and I were the last ones back, so we got the pleasure of sleeping outside.
The next morning an executive decision by the FIC and SIC was made to motor back. The winds were looking to be nearly non-existent. The TIC agreed with their decision and we motored back. It was a nice day, flat lake, and very temperate. Good times were had by all (mostly by Katie).

We hope that this becomes an annual tradition (hopefully with more wind next year).
